I just had to relate to you our "adventure" last night.....I'm trying to laugh about it..... lol
The town where Karl grew up, and where I work, Princeton, is having the annual Beef and Ag Days this weekend. Last night, the downtown merchants/Chamber of Commerce was adding a "Festival 9 3/4" to promote Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and to help give a boost to the local merchants. They were actually going to transform (in some way) downtown Main Street to "Diagon Alley" and serve butterbeer, and probably show one of the films. I heard some of the shops would temporarily adopt some of the names from the book, etc. Then at 12:01 they would begin selling the new book.
So, Karl and I decided we'd head down there later in the evening. Well, 10:30 rolls around and we get ready to go. Get in his truck. Drive out of the lake to the Hwy 29 and our electrical begins to fail. We decide we are going to have to turn around, but we are on a 1-lane road/2 lane-hiway.
The electical does die, we pull over on the shoulder, hoping not to roll into the cornfield....and the truck dies. Karl takes some pliers and his flashlight, trying to see if the connection to the battery has come loose. We have some hope. But won't start.
I'm sitting here thinking, gee, what a fun birthday outing (we had planned to begin my bday in town...)
but at least I can see the beautiful golden Waxing Moon clearly in the sky. It was a humid night....
A car stops and gives us a jump and as he drives away it begins to die again. We have moved a few feet, but Karl did manage to get it back onto the shoulder again.
We think we may have to walk home--luckily we are only 3-4 miles from home. I didn't relish the idea of walking hilly roads 4 miles in the dark on a humid night when we are both wearing black, and only have a tiny flashlight, but...
we decide to call the insurance--new insurance, has road service, but they tell us that they don't call the tow truck, just reimburse us. great. Luckily Karl has an old phone book in the truck. I find one towing service in the nearest "large" town, and he comes and gets us, takes us and the truck home.
$65.00, BANG! We get home at 12:02 a.m. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! LOL
At least we are home. We are safe. We discussed venturing out in my car, but decided not to, since it was very possible that all the festivities were over. LOL with our luck the stores would be closed. lol
So, there you have an interesting adventure...... and another $65 bucks we shouldn't have spent.....and now I guess THAT was my bday gift! lol what with Karl's check being short cuz of the W/C injury and all....... lol
we may still go get something to eat today, but not sure I should let him splurge on me for the book...though I DO want it...... lol
what a crack up.......just had to share that with all of you! lol
